On Querying Ontologies and Databases

چکیده
This paper concerns the motivation for and subsequently the analysis of proposed additions, in the form of new operators, to a concept language Ontolog for use in querying a content-based text retrieval system. The expressiveness of the proposed query language introduces the possibility for querying both objects in the base but also mechanisms for direct querying of the ontology, and it furthermore enables the enduser to tailor the evaluation principle of the system by influencing query expansion in the ontology.

Background and Aim: Ontologies facilitate data integration, exchange, searching and querying. Open Biomedical Ontologies (OBO) Foundry is a solution for creating reference ontologies. In this foundry, the design of ontologies is based on established principles which allow for their interactions as a single system. The purpose of this study is to determine the main features of ontologies develop...
متن کاملEnhancing Connection between Ontologies and Databases with Owl 2 Concepts and Sparql
The goal of the paper is to present the enhanced database schema for storing ontologies considering new features of OWL 2 and possibilities of querying these ontologies using SPARQL. The growing size of ontologies and the scope of their applications require the effective means for storing ontology data that relational databases already have approved. Many existing ontology reasoning tools are u...
متن کاملAn Extension of Ontology based Databases to Handle Preferences
Ontologies have been defined to make explicit the semantics of data. With the emergence of the SemanticWeb, the amount of ontological data (or instances) available has increased. To manage such data, Ontology Based DataBases (OBDBs), that store ontologies and their instance data in the same repository have been proposed. These databases are associated with exploitation languages supporting desc...
متن کاملTowards Populating and Querying the Semantic Web
There are two main issues on querying the Semantic Web: what data can be queried and how to query them. This paper tackles how to query existing data in relational databases over popular ontologies in the Semantic Web. It shows (i) how the mappings between Description Logic-based ontologies and relational schemas can be specified, and (ii) how queries against ontologies can be translated to SQL...
متن کاملQuerying with Terminological Ontologies and Their Annotations
Today, with the increasing development of computational biology, various large databases are built to describe genomic information and the used experimental data. To guarantee the consistency of biological concepts used in different databases, the Gene Ontology (GO) has been developed by the Gene Ontology Consortium to describe biological concepts and their relationships in a species-independen...
متن کاملOntology Alignment for Real-World Applications
An ontology-driven approach to data integration relies on the alignment of the concepts of a global ontology that describe the domain, with the concepts of the ontologies that describe the data in the local databases. Once the alignment between the global ontology and each of the local ontologies is established, users can potentially query hundreds of databases using a single query that hides t...
